Celebrant for Baby Naming Ceremonies
Many parents these days are not religious, but would still like to hold a ceremony similar to a christening during which they can introduce their new baby to family and friends and affirm their love and hopes for their child. A naming ceremony can also be used to welcome adopted or stepchildren who’re joining the family.
As a HypnoBirthing teacher, I’ve helped over 400 couples have beautiful, peaceful births, and have shared parents’ joy at welcoming a new baby into the world.
Your ceremony can include the appointment of godparents (also known as guideparents, guard parents or fairy godmothers/fathers!) who may wish to write their own promises to your child about supporting and guiding them as they grow up. It can also incorporate beloved family traditions or create new ones, such as a bracelet-blessing ritual or the creation of a Wisdom Box where guests can place cards on which they share life lessons with your child.
I charge £250 for writing and conducting bespoke naming ceremonies in London, Surrey, Kent, Hampshire and Sussex within a one-hour drive of Croydon. If your Ceremony is further afield, additional fees for travel costs and time will apply.
Please be advised that in order for me to be able to focus my full attention on making sure the ceremony runs smoothly, I don’t use a PA system or microphones as ‘technical difficulties’ can ruin a ceremony and microphones don’t look good in photos. Similarly, if you’d like music to be played during the ceremony, this is something a friend or relative will need to take care of for you.
Planning your perfect baby-naming ceremony
- The first step is to drop me a line to arrange a time when we can have an informal, no-obligation chat by phone or Skype so that you can get to know me and discuss the type of ceremony you’d like.
- If you decide that you’d like me to conduct your baby-naming ceremony, I’ll email you a booking form asking for a deposit of £200. Once I’ve received your deposit I’ll email you a questionnaire and suggestions for rituals you may wish to include in your ceremony.
- Using the information you’ve given me, I’ll write you a tailor-made ceremony incorporating any special readings, poems or wording (religious or non-religious) that you’ve chosen. I’ll then email you a written copy of the ceremony so that you can amend anything you choose. Once you’re happy with your ceremony, the remaining £50 is payable.
- On your baby’s naming day, I will conduct the ceremony using the script we’ve created together.
